My Military Bio

(My last 5 years in the military I assigned to special duty and was one of the first Equal Opportunity Advisors for the Marine Corps. As a result I had to maintain a bio to present to General Officers, below is this bio)

Gunnery Sergeant Bradley J. Johnson

GySgt Johnson born 25 June 1956 originally joined the Marine Corps on 17 April 1976.  Serving three years in the Infantry Field, during these years he held billets as the education NCO, Drug and Alcohol NCO, Weight Control NCO, and other billets assigned.  He joined the Serviceman's Opportunity College and worked towards his Associate of Arts degree.  In April 1979, he was discharged and returned to Ball State University where he began work on his Bachelor’s degree.

He returned to the Marine Corps in July 1981. Re-enlisting for an MOS of 0131, Unit Dairy Clerk he reported for duty but was assigned an MOS of 8711, Operations Specialist, to Training and Operations, MCRD San Diego.  During this tour he returned to college completing his Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant.  Reassigned to recruiting duty he was a canvassing recruiter for RS Detroit, Michigan, there he was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.  Upon completion of recruiting duty he was reassigned to H&MS-16, MCAS Tustin where he served as the Legal Officer. In 1989 he was reassigned to HMH-462, as the Personnel Officer and Information System Management Officer.  During this period at MCAS Tustin he returned to graduate school and earned a Master of Arts in Business and a Master of Arts in Management.

In 1991 GySgt Johnson was assigned as the Statistician, 1st MCD, Garden City, NY and later reassigned as their Personnel Chief.  In April 1993 he was selected with 16 other Marine SNCOs to attend the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), and become one of the first Equal Opportunity Advisor.  Graduating on the Commandant's List of Honors, he arrived at MCB Quantico, VA in September 1993 and assumed the duty as the EO Advisor.  He completed the last five years of his career as an EO Advisor in MOS 9915.
